Depression is one of the most
common mental health conditions worldwide. Most of the patients are treated
with therapies and medication. But ongoing research suggests that regular
medication and mindful practices help reduce stress and anxiety.
When a person is depressed, he is
a continuous state of sadness and loses interest in all day to day activities.
Mindfulness helps you to focus on
the present and be aware of your feelings without any judgments. This state of
being aware and in present can be practiced through simple meditation. Once you
start meditations, you will notice that mindfulness works to change the way you
think about the negative emotions.
Some simple meditation techniques
which will help in treating depression are:
Visualization:
This helps in focusing on
pleasant and pleasing images, rather than negative or disturbing. It helps
focus a person on what positive things he wants in life.
Awareness of breath:
While meditating, be aware of
your breath. Breathing through challenging emotions helps lower anxiety and
stress. Sometimes counting your breath can ease anxiety.
Love yourself Meditation:
While meditating, focus on
yourself, erase all negative thoughts and only focus on loving yourself.
Distance yourself from negative thoughts:
If a person is undergoing
depression then throughout the day many negative thoughts will come in his
mind. One has to make a conscious effort not to think about any negative
thoughts or emotions. Even if negative thoughts come to your mind, distract
yourself deliberately and think of positive thoughts.
Focus on the present :
When a person is depressed, he or
she tries to ponder about the past events or worry about the future. You have to
not think about any negativity and only concentrate about present.
